We invite you to take part in a webinar focusing on the Swedish Research Council’s 3Rs project grant. The webinar will be held on Tuesday, 10 February at 12.00–13.00 CET.
The session will begin with an introduction to the 3Rs grant by Isabel Dellacasa Lindberg, Senior Research Officer at the Swedish Research Council.
We are also pleased to welcome two researchers who were each awarded a 3Rs project grant in 2024:
Volker Lauschke, Professor of Translational Pharmacology at Karolinska Institutet, will present his project: Use of a novel 3D human liver system for the prediction and understanding of hepatotoxicity induced by biological medicinal products.
Maria Tenje, Professor of Microsystems Technology at Uppsala University, will present her project: New microfluidic in vitro model to replace joint infection studies in animals.
Following the presentations there will be time for questions from the audience.
Calls for Funding for Research to Replace, Reduce and Refine Animal Experimentation
Two funding calls are currently open, and an additional call will open shortly.
American Alternatives Research & Development Foundation (ARDF)
ARDF has opened its Annual Open Grant Programme, which accepts applications from researchers worldwide.
The first stage of the application process – submission of a Letter of Intent – closes on 20 February.
Gahlinstiftelsen offers funding for research projects that aim to replace, reduce or refine the use of animals in experiments.
Applications may be submitted until 31 March.
The Swedish Research Council’s annual call for project grants supporting the development of methods that replace, reduce or refine animal experimentation will open on 11 February and close on 17 March.
We invite you to a webinar on the voluntary administration of substances
to laboratory animals, presenting two
methods that have been distinquished with the EPAA Refinement Prize (2021 and
2025). The webinar
will be held on Wednesday, February 25 at 12.00–13.00 CET.
Lee Robinson, University of Dundee, will present his research focusing on development of voluntary oral dosing as a refinement method for administering infectious agents, such as the intestinal parasite Cryptosporidium, to laboratory animals.
Sofia Andreia Domingues Viana, University of Coimbra, will present a
refined methods for oral drug administration of bioactive compounds to rodents, known as HaPILLness, which she uses in her research on metabolic diseases and their prevention.
Following the presentations there will be time for questions from the audience.
EPAA 3Rs Student Grants – Call for Submissions
The
2026 call for submissions for the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA) 3Rs Student Grants is now open. Each year, the EPAA supports students and early‑career researchers in attending major international conferences focused on the development and acceptance of 3R alternatives to animal testing.
For 2026, two full grants of €1,000 each are available to support participation in the following meetings:
